The project's objective is to create indigenous-inspired costumes; and our team has decided to choose the tribe of Lumad, the Philippines' largest indigenous group.
The concept we have for the tattoo design symbolizes both their culture and productivity such as education, farming, fishing, and trading, together with a hint for Lumads’ unjust state —cage, bomb, gun, and death. While the male and female top, skirt, and shorts are a bit modernized version of the usual Lumad garments with preserved weaving patterns. The headdresses were formed with the combination of Lumads’ usual head kerchief decorated with beads and tassels, and Graduation togas; It is a message that we must defend the sanctuary of learning and of life.
In summary, the team’s goal is to showcase the rich culture of the Lumad tribe with an attempt to call out the unjust situation caused by unfair treatments against the tribe.
